I also have Word 2000 premium for working on documents. From that I found one registry key that changed as a result. Stephen Bradley says: 7 years ago The fix of deleting the mswrd632.wpc registry key is meant to correct the problem of failure to open a text file with a .doc extension I noticed the first two characters were PK which is indicitive of it being PKZIPped, so I renamed the file to .ZIP and opened it up.
